Charters and Memberships

HKEX has voluntarily adopted, subscribed or endorsed a number of externally developed economic, environmental and social charters, principles, or other initiatives to promote sustainable development in the Marketplace, Workplace, Community and Environment. Details of the charters and initiatives are available on their respective websites.

CDP (a non-governmental organisation formerly known as Carbon Disclosure Project)

HKEX has responded to the CDP’s annual information request since 2009.

Carbon Footprint Repository (CFR) for Listed Companies in Hong Kong

HKEX supported the launch of the Government’s online CFR for companies listed in Hong Kong in December 2014 and has since participated in the CFR to disclose its greenhouse gas emission data.

Carbon Reduction Charter

HKEX signed the charter in September 2008, and has since supported various carbon reduction activities as a green partner of Environmental Protection Department’s “Green Hong Kong – Carbon Audit” campaign.

Energy Saving Charter

HKEX signed the charter in June 2014 and has pledged to save energy by maintaining the average indoor temperature of its premises between 24oC to 26oC from June to September.

Food Wise Charter

HKEX signed the charter in March 2014 and has adopted measures to reduce food waste such as recycling food waste to compost as much as possible for gardening and arranging the quantity of food being served to canteen users on a need basis to avoid wastage.

Global Reporting Initiative (GRI)

HKEX has been adopting GRI Sustainability Reporting Guidelines for CSR reporting since 2009 to enhance disclosure and transparency.

Hong Kong Corporate Social Responsibility Charter

HKEX signed the charter in September 2008 to demonstrate its commitment to provide CSR leadership, integrate CSR into its organisation strategy, and engage and communicate with its stakeholders on its CSR strategies and policies in a manner relevant and appropriate to its business.

Talent-Wise Employment Charter and Inclusive Organisations Recognition Scheme

HKEX signed the charter in September 2013 and has adopted various measures to enhance the employment opportunities of persons with disabilities and create an inclusive workplace.

The World Health Organisation’s Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO FCTC)

HKEX’s Investment Policy, Restrictions and Guidelines have incorporated the considerations of WHO FCTC by setting “tobacco and tobacco-related” as restricted industry since October 2013.

United Nations-supported Principles for Responsible Investment (UNPRI)

HKEX has incorporated some of the key principles under the UNPRI in its Investment Policy, Restrictions and Guidelines since November 2010. Fund Managers managing HKEX corporate funds are also encouraged to sign up for the UNPRI.


As part of its business strategy, HKEX has participated in various national or international advocacy organisations by holding positions on their governance bodies, participating in projects or committees, or providing funding.

Alternative Investment Management Association

Member

Asia Pacific Central Securities Depository Group (ACG)

Hong Kong Securities Clearing Company Limited (HKSCC), a wholly owned subsidiary of HKEX, is a founding member of ACG and plays an important role in facilitating the exchange of information and promoting mutual assistance among member securities depositories and clearing organisations in the Asia Pacific region.

In 2016, HKSCC participated in the 18th ACG Cross Training Seminar held in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam and the 20th ACG General Meeting in Tehran, Iran.

Asian and Oceanian Stock Exchanges Federation

Member

HKEX plays an active role in facilitating the exchange of information and promoting mutual assistance among member exchanges, with a view to developing the securities markets in the Asian and Oceanian regions.

Association of National Numbering Agencies (ANNA)

Member

HKEX is committed to allocating International Securities Identification Numbers based on International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 6166 Standard for different types of financial products and disseminating the data according to the ANNA Guidelines.
