Operation Santa Claus 2019 Officially Kicks Off at HKEX Connect Hall

    Updated: 18 Feb 2020

It has become a Christmas tradition in Hong Kong for more than 30 years: coming together in the holiday season to raise funds for those less fortunate in our community and fully embrace the spirit of giving. That tradition is continuing in 2019 with a colourful and energetic opening ceremony at HKEX Connect Hall.

HKEX Chief Executive Charles Li helped kick off Operation Santa Claus 2019 on 7 November, marking HKEX's first year as an official supporting organisation. A spectacular countdown and 360 degree light show officially launched the campaign, which aims to
raise funds to support those people in Hong Kong who are most in need of support.

Li announced at the launch ceremony that HKEX would donate HK$250,000 to Operation Santa Claus, and then pledged to match the amount with a personal donation, bringing the total to $500,000.

Operation Santa Claus has been a tradition in Hong Kong since its first campaign in 1988, when founding organisations RTHK and the South China Morning Post teamed up to help raise HK$101,000. Since then, more than HK$290 million has been raised supporting more than 270 charitable projects.

This year funds  raised through Operation Santa Claus will benefit
Mental Health Foundation, Hong Kong Women Workers’ Association, Chicken Soup Foundation, The Hub Hong Kong and others .
