Eugene Cheung has worked in the exchanged/OTC trading and derivatives industries for over fifteen years. He currently serves as managing director, head of China for Tradeweb, responsible to lead the business such as Bond Connect and be accountable for implementing and achieving growth plan across China. He worked for approximately 10 years at CME Group and had been the head of China business development since 2012. He was responsible for identifying and pursuing opportunities to grow CME Group’s business, and managing and owning the responsibility for all key strategic initiatives in China. Under Cheung’s leadership, CME Group has established strategic partnerships with all four China’s futures exchanges and China’s inter-bank exchanges such as Shanghai Gold Exchange (SGE), Shanghai Clearing House (SHCH), and China Foreign Exchange Trading System (CFETS). Cheung onboarded the China FCM Nanhua to become CME’s first China full clearing member and Bank of China to become CME’s first China settlement and custodian bank. He is a regular speaker at industry seminars in China and provides advices and internal training to the CSRC, the People’s Bank of China and China Futures Association. Before assuming his current role, Cheung was responsible for overseeing CME Group’s clearing business in Asia Pacific, and driving CME Group’s application for OTC clearing and trade repository licenses in various Asia Pacific jurisdictions, including Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore and Australia. He has held risk management roles of increasing responsibility since joining CME Group in 2006. Before joining CME Group, Mr Cheung worked for Cantor Fitzgerald and a Hong Kong-based private equity firm. Cheung graduated from the University of Hong Kong with a bachelors degree in economics and finance and received his masters degree in finance from the Illinois Institute of Technology. He is a certified Financial Risk Manager (FRM).
